The Mission Committee has supported the Abigayle Mission for several years.  Abigayle House is the former convent of St. Matthias Parish in Sterling Heights.  The program helps single pregnant women ages 18 or more by providing a place to stay when the options are few or none.  The new mothers to be are given life skills on parenting, employment and more.

This year on Saturday, September 19th the Mission Committee held a Baby Shower Luncheon for Abigayle Ministries. Although less than 20 women attended the luncheon, the congregation responded with so many beautiful items for the shower.

Our guest speaker, Carly Hanney, Community Relations Manager from Abigayle Ministries spoke of the future changes coming in 2016 which will include additional bedrooms for residents and more.  They will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild and we look forward to their helping additional women in need.

Here at First Presbyterian Church of Mount Clemens we support this organization through financial donations as well as gifts that the women can use.  There is a list of acceptable donation items on their website, abigayles@abigayleministries.org or call 586-323-1411.

November is the time of year when we think of all the things we are thankful for.

The Mission Committee is thankful for a busy year, working very hard to support missions that you, the members of our congregation have expressed interest in and are committed to. We started off the year in January with Interfaith Center for Racial Justice Martin Luther King Dinner and The Warming Center and we will end our year with The Christmas Joy Offering to be held in December.

We believe that the most important thing we do each year is engaging the congregation with the missions we support. We have tried to be creative with our resources, both financial and our best asset human resources…which would be all of you! In everything the committee does, we think of what you would like to see happen, how it helps us to unite with our community here in Mount Clemens, as well as the greater community of God.

So, at this time we would like to thank YOU for supporting the Mission Committee!  From the Warming Center volunteers to our young Angels in Training working with breaking down the Community Tomato Garden…we are grateful for each and every one of you. Someone asked in one of our recent Mission Committee meetings just how many people we touched through our deeds in the church. No one has come up with an answer as yet, but it has to be in the thousands. So we are thankful for your continued support and big hearts which help with the varied mission areas FPC supports.

Mission may be on the move…but so are you and we appreciate everything you do!

MOUNT CLEMENS GOODFELLOWS  If you’ve recently seen a lot of movement around the Family Life Center, get excited! You see, the Mount Clemens Goodfellows have started their 2015 No Child Without a Christmas Campaign. We are pleased the Goodfellows are again using the FLC to organize for this very worthy cause. For many years now the Goodfellows have made sure local children have a wonderful Christmas by encouraging Mount Clemens families in need to register at the beginning of each November.  Now magic of giving begins…
