Senior High Youth Group

img 20130120 113958 658The Impact Sr. High Youth Group at the First Presbyterian Church is very rich with tradition. For many years, senior high youth have gone through this program and are left with lasting memories they will always carry with them. This program is open to students between 9th & 12th grades. The youth group meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00 & 7:30 p.m.

The youth group focuses on building lasting relationships between the youth as well as the advisors. This is done through a variety of activities that provide fun, fellowship and team building. We put a strong emphasis on faith development with the youth as well. It is our goal to make the youth group a place where the youth can be themselves and be open to talk about issues that are facing them.

Throughout the year, we take the youth on many different activities including: hayrides, ropes courses, concerts, a variety dinner theater show, as well a retreat in the winter. We are always looking for new ideas to encourage the youth to come and have fun!

Throughout the year, we raise money towards our mission trip in the summer called Work Camp.  For one week every summer, we pack up the youth and head to a place determined by the advisors to work for a week.  The youth work in a variety of avenues including: painting, building a house, working on electrical, working with soup kitchens, and working with Habitat for Humanity.  This week provides the youth with a great way to see different parts of our country, continue to develop in their faith, give back the community as well as further cement relationships with their peers and advisors.  This is a highlight of the year for our Senior Highs!

If you would like more information on our Senior High program, please feel free to contact our church office at (586) 465-0461 and they will direct you to the proper person!

IMPACT

The IMPACT Senior High Youth Group would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You!” to all of you who supported our annual Christmas fundraiser. Although we aren’t ever surprised by your generosity, we are amazed at just how much you’ll do to help! Our congregation ordered more than 180 poinsettias and 50 wreaths in 2012. A portion of the cost of each decoration helps bring down the cost of our Work Camp in June, which is a week-long mission trip. Also, remember when we collected donations for our 5 Miles for Mission & Mischief Walk? With your support, we were able to buy gifts for a local single mom and her five children. They couldn’t have celebrated Christmas with gift-giving without your help. Thanks to Laura Henderson for connecting our group with our “adopted” family.

Looking ahead to our plans for 2012 is exciting! The Youth Group advisors are getting together to plan service projects, fellowship, and faith-building activities for the winter and spring. We are looking forward to our SpringHill retreat, coming up during the first weekend in February.

Attention: Do you have a talent that you would love to share with the congregation? Are you part of a band, or can you dance? Do you perform magic, or can you tell jokes? Can you sing, or do you like to act in skits? Please come forward and say you’ll be part of the IMPACT Youth Group’s Annual Dinner and Variety Show on March 2nd and 3rd. Look for a sign-up sheet soon, or contact one of the youth group advisors.

Do you know a high school youth who would like to be a part of our group? Tell them it’s never too late to come and check us out. For information on where to join us, call the church office to get in contact with a Youth Group advisor.

We intend to make an IMPACT on the New Year!
