Community Outreach Making the community feel welcome through evangelism. Connecting with people in a trusting relationship so that they can hear and know the love of God is the job of the Evangelism committee. An annual Block Party for the community allows families of all ages in the community to come together for fun where they are introduced to the friendly atmosphere here at First Presbyterian Church. A variety of outdoor activities such as a Bounce House, Tumbelbus; Science Alive with exotic animals help to engage people in conversation and fun. People find us also at the Stars and Stripes Festival in downtown Mount Clemens. Our booth of Face Painting allows the opportunity to talk with parents and children about the church while their faces are transformed into painted canvasses. The Santa Parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving makes it easy to show our enthusiasm as a church family by waving to the crowds from our decorated float. We also freely offer hot chocolate to cold onlookers as a gesture of hospitality and warmth. When a person makes a visit to the worship service, a Muffin Ministry team goes out usually that afternoon with some delicious homemade muffins just to let them know how glad we are to have them as a guest in worship. Our sincere desire is for that new person to come back again and a home among us. When a person is ready to join the church, they gather with others interested in learning about the ministry of First Presbyterian Church. The WIN (Wonderful Introduction for Newcomers) class happens every two months, which includes getting to know each other, learning about the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., looking at denominational differences and experiencing the different aspects of the ministries for FPC through the sharing of Elders, Deacons and Staff. If you are interested in serving on this committee, the committee meets at the church on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Please contact the church office for more information! |
