The underlying theme for Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church (FPC) this fall will be “Foundations.”  Our foundation was on prime display during the recent dedication of our new Family Life Center.  While on that day we celebrated the opening of the building, every single person who was present that day made a statement about his or her own personal foundation, by declaring that “Jesus is Lord.”

With the opening of the 2014-15 school year, FPC is entering a new era in youth ministry.  We have the Family Life Center (FLC) in place to accommodate our growing ministry, we’ve reconfigured our Faith Development education program with separate Sunday morning classes for junior and senior high level students and we have new leaders joining a solid team of existing youth leaders.

It would be very, then, to say, “Look at what we are doing!”  What we should really be saying is, “Look at what we can accomplish by relying on Christ as our cornerstone.”  We rely on Christ not only for the building and operation of the FLC, but for everything we do in youth ministry and as the church.  If we ever forget that Jesus is our foundation, our house will not stand against the storm.

As we engage in youth ministry this fall, please let us keep the idea of Jesus as Foundation in our minds and think about the ways to include that idea in conversations/activities with our youth.
